achalasia Path.|ækəˈleɪzɪə| [mod.L., f. Gr. ἀ- priv. + χάλασις slackening, relaxation, f. χαλᾶν to relax + -ia1.] Failure (of a muscle) to relax. Hence achaˈlasic a., of an organ, etc., affected by achalasia.
