dexamethasone Pharm.|ˌdɛksəˈmɛθəsəʊn, -zəʊn| [f. dexa- (blend of hexa- and deca- in hexadecadrol (see quot. 19582), representing the number 16 in the systematic names) + methyl + -a + cortisone.] A synthetic steroid, C22H29FO5, which resembles cortisone in its effects and is used in the treatment of some blood disorders and as an anti-inflammatory agent.
