† deˈsponsories, n. pl. Obs. Also 7 desponsorios, desposories. [ad. Sp. desposorios espousal, betrothal, f. desposar to affiance:—L. dēsponsāre (after which the word is modified in English). Chiefly used in relation to the proposed Spanish marriage of Charles I.] 1. Betrothal, or a ceremony in celebration of it.
