stomiatoid, n. and a. Zool.|ˈstəʊ-, ˈstɒmɪətɔɪd| [f. mod.L. name of suborder Stomiatoidei, f. generic name Stomias (H. R. Schinz in G.L.C.F.D. Cuvier Thierreich (1822) II. 310), f. Gr. στόµ-α mouth + -ia2: see -oid.] A. n. A deep-sea fish of the suborder Stomiatoidei, distinguished by a large mouth and rows of photophores on its sides. B. adj. Of or pertaining to a fish of this kind or the suborder as a whole.
