Stilling, n.3 Ophthalm.|ˈʃtɪlɪŋ| The name of Jakob Stilling (1842–1915), German ophthalmologist, used attrib. and in the possessive with reference to a test for colour-blindness based on the use of pseudo-isochromatic plates which he devised (Arch. Ophthalmol. (1879) VIII. 164).
1896J. E. Jennings Color-Vision & Color-Blindness vii. 75 Stilling's plates are of practical value, and should be used in conjunction with the worsted test. 1925M.
